Selwyn house School, 75 th Anniversary

Wednesday 26 th Mary 2004

Welcome to Cathedral Square! After three weeks of rain the sun’s finally come out to shine on your parade!

And Happy 75th Birthday! 75 probably seems really old to most of you. Well, in the life of a school it is old. And that’s something to be really proud of.

Can you imagine what Christchurch, and this Square, looked like 75 years ago? So much has changed in 75 years - in fact just about everything you can think of has changed since your school was opened. 75 years ago there were trams running through the Square. We farewelled people off to wars and greeted royalty in this Square. We also had parades in the Square, like this one.

But one thing has not changed in 75 years – and will never, ever, change. That is, caring parents, who still want to give their girls the very best start in life that they can. They still want quality and consistency. They still want stability, and for their children to feel some sense of tradition and continuity. They will be parents like yours.

When we talk about Christchurch being a city of diversity, we also make it clear that diversity includes schools of distinction and character, like Selwyn House. So be proud of your school, and enjoy the celebrations!

Happy birthday school, happy birthday girls, and teachers, of Selwyn House!
